Surrey crowd denied by rain

Surrey crowd denied by rain Allenby: Half-century

A crowd of 8,000 were denied seeing Kevin Pietersen bat on his competition debut as rain ruined Surrey's Friends Life t20 clash with Glamorgan.

The visitors made 167-7 in their 20 overs with Jim Allenby hitting 63 off 44 balls before thunder and lightning hit the Kia Oval.

Torrential rain cleared but it was just a temporary respite as another prolonged shower just before 9pm made further play impossible.

Mark Cosgrove (43 from 30 balls) added 57 in six overs with Allenby after captain Alviro Petersen fell for a run-a-ball 13.

Cosgrove was caught by Pietersen at long-on with the score on 92 before Jade Dernbach (3-30) had both Mark Wallace and Graham Wagg caught behind.

Ben Wright was another casualty but Allenby was joined by David Brown (31 from 21) and the pair regained the thread with a 53-run partnership before Allenby was bowled by Dernbach in the penultimate over.
