Rogers: Top-scored for Middlesex
The visitors reached a target of 164 with a single ball to spare as an unbeaten 39 from Scott Newman guided them to their target in the South Group contest.
The Panthers needed nine off the last over and got home despite seeing John Simpson run out off the first ball.
Newman rode his luck and was dropped three times, first by Mike Yardy and then twice by Rana Naved in the same Monty Panesar over.
A second-wicket stand of 70 from 47 balls between Chris Rogers and Steven Crook had set Middlesex on course to reach their target, with the former top-scoring for his side with 46.
Opener Paul Stirling was dismissed for 25 before Rogers and Crook (29) combined to take their side to 101-1.
Sussex hit back when Panesar claimed the wickets of both batsmen in the same over, but Newman took the reins and ensured the away side were victorious.
Luke Wright had earlier scored a second straight half-century as Sussex compiled 163-8 on a slow pitch, while Panthers skipper Neil Dexter finished with competition-best figures of 4-21.
Dexter took two of those wickets in the final over to make amends for dropping Wright on 57, with the opener eventually going on to make 71 from 45 balls.
He put on 31 for the first wicket with Chris Nash (10) then combined with captain Yardy to add 47 in 33 balls for the first wicket.
Yardy (17) was Dexter's first victim as the all-rounder was bowled while making room to cut before Sussex lost momentum as Joe Gatting (13) was run out and Dexter had Wright caught at long on.
Rana did plunder 19 off seven balls including a towering six over the sight-screen, but the total would not prove to be enough.
