Dynamos turn on the power

Dynamos turn on the power Mustard: steered Durham home

Durham Dynamos eased to their first victory in this year's Friends Life t20 with a nine-wicket success over Northamptonshire Steelbacks in seamer-friendly conditions at Wantage Road.

Having been sent in to bat, the Steelbacks slumped to 43-5 in the 12th over thanks to disciplined bowling from Graham Onions (1-18), Chris Rushworth (2-22) and Paul Collingwood (2-15) in particular.

South African pair Johan Botha (36) and Andrew Hall (28) scripted a recovery of sorts with a 63-run stand for the seventh wicket before Northants closed on 124-9 - a total that included the addition of six penalty runs for Durham's slow over-rate.

Despite the pitch continuing to offer plenty of assistance for the seam bowlers, the visitors cruised to their target with 23 balls to spare.

Opening batsman Phil Mustard hit 10 fours and a six in his 61 not out from 49 deliveries, while Ian Blackwell contributed 41 off 27 to an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 67.

Mustard's opening partner, Gordon Muchall, was the only wicket to fall, caught by Jack Brooks off David Willey's bowling for 19 in the 10th over.
